Belgian interiors and architecture through the eyes of photographer Claude Smekens

Everyone who is following my blog since the start, will certainly have noticed that the Belgian photographer Claude Smekens was mentionned several times when I credited his posted pictures.

Today I want to introduce you to this photographer for 2 reasons! First of all I want you to meet Claude because he definitely is one of Belgian’s most talented and outstanding photographers. He is passionate about his work that witnesses true craftsmanship. Second reason I want you to know Claude, is, that this photographer is eager to show the world, through the lens of his camera, the architecture and interiors of our Belgian houses!

Together with his wife Magda Desmet, who is a stylist and decorator (website Magda : http://www.magdadesmet.be), he captures the soul of our Belgian interiors in a way you have never experienced before.

“We are both passionate about visualization of interiors and everything involved with. Spreading around the world, the knowledge of Belgian interior craftsmen and professionals, through magazines, is increasingly important for us.”, explains Claude.

As you all will know, introducing our Belgian interior design and craftsmanship to the world, is also one of the reasons I started my blog a few years ago.

So in one way or another, I do feel connected with this photographer.

Claude and his wife Magda work for several renowned Belgian interior design magazines.

Enough talk now! I want you to enjoy the gorgeous pictures of the photographer I posted here today!.They will speak much more than words!

4  You will notice that Claude has an amazing eye for detail and for the art of photography.

Photo by Greet LefèvreMy sister’s house. Picture by me!

I decided to renew the website of our company www.lefevre.be in the next coming weeks and so I asked Claude to take several new pictures !

What do you think? Did I made the right choice by asking this Belgian photographer for the next photoshoot?

  2. Amazing! Greet, I think that most likely a lot of your readers don't know how technically difficult such interior photography really is. He balances the light so beautifully that he makes it look effortless. And I really appreciate that Magda's styling is never overwhelming. As always, you introduce us to the best of Belgian talents!

  5. I could look at these pictures a hundred times over and never get enough. Claude's able to capture so much with one image, I wish I knew how to do that. Even his close up shots are amazing, to have that kind of eye. I'm off to roam both sites because I'm dying to see more. Thank you for sharing.

  12. Emotional and evocative are the adjectives that come to mind. The very best photographers know how to photograph a room/home in ways that tell its story. They know how to light a room so that we as viewers are not aware of the additional lighting. They understand that a camera sees very differently than we do and they know what lense is appropriate for each shot, to bring out the best in a room. The same can be said of the best stylists. Claude and Magda have it in spades.

Your sister's house will be beautifully photographed. Can't wait to see the finished shots!

    Cheers,
    John

  13. Hallo Greet,

    Fijne avond,

  15. Greet.....beyond stunning. There is just something about Belgian design.....the colours, composition, simplicity, refined elegance...that make it stand apart. This is why I like the design of Dries Van Notten...another fabulous Belgian designer. So much to learn from these photographs. Merci beaucoup.

  17. Hello,I just today found your blog.Very pretty to peruse around at My leisure.Several years ago I bought a buffet table from an antique shop, because it was just what I needed, and I liked it's looks. The dealer told Me it was from Belgium.Well, I'm not one to put a lot of trust in dealers so I filed it in the back of My brain as-"Oh yah right, you'll tell Me anything. Not on paper-not true."Can't wait to browse enough your blog to tell for myself.Denise

  23. Awesome photos and designs. A feast to the eyes. I am drooling here as I take many inspirations. Exquisite pieces, truly a work of art. Most of them can work so well even in condo units. Everything was captured perfectly, the lighting, the positioning. Each of the photos can tell you a story. Amazing talent. Cheers!
